Stuttgarthorb Railway Construction Work On Filder Tunnel To Start In 2025

Stuttgart–Horb railway: Construction work on Filder Tunnel to start in 2025

New: Deutsche Bahn and the state of Baden-Württemberg have agreed on the financing of the Stuttgart–Horb railway.

The Filder Tunnel is to be built from 2025.

Stuttgart - The construction of the new Stuttgart–Horb railway line is taking a big step forward: Deutsche Bahn and the state of Baden-Württemberg have agreed on the financing of the project.

The federal government is providing around 938 million euros, the state of Baden-Württemberg around 469 million euros. The project costs are estimated at around 1.4 billion euros.

The new line will be around 60 kilometers long and will run from Stuttgart via Böblingen, Herrenberg, and Horb to Rottweil. It will significantly shorten travel times between Stuttgart and the Gäu region.

The centerpiece of the project is the 12.5-kilometer-long Filder Tunnel, which is to be built from 2025.

The tunnel will run underground from Stuttgart Airport to Neuhausen auf den Fildern. Minister of Transport Winfried Hermann (Greens) spoke of a "milestone" for the project.

"With the start of construction of the Filder Tunnel in 2025, we are taking a big step towards a faster and more efficient rail connection between Stuttgart and the Gäu region," said Hermann.

The new line will also relieve the Gäubahn, which is currently heavily congested.

"The new line will be a major improvement for commuters and long-distance travelers," said Deutsche Bahn project manager Steffen Bilger.

"We are pleased that we have now reached an agreement with the state of Baden-Württemberg on the financing of the project.

This is an important milestone for the project and we are now looking forward to starting construction soon."
