Mariners Fall to Athletics 5-4 on Langeliers’ Walkoff HR

Exciting Finish at the Coliseum

Athletics Rally in 9th Inning

Oakland, Calif. - The Seattle Mariners fell to the Oakland Athletics 5-4 on Sunday afternoon at the Oakland Coliseum.

The Athletics rallied in the bottom of the ninth inning off Mariners closer Paul Sewald. With runners on first and second and one out, catcher Shea Langeliers hit a 1-2 sinker over the left field wall for a walk-off home run. Langeliers' homer was his eighth of the season.

The Mariners were led by Eugenio Suárez, who went 3-for-4 with a home run and two RBIs. Julio Rodriguez also homered for the Mariners.

The Athletics improve to 39-71 with the win, while the Mariners fall to 55-55.

Exciting Game from Start to Finish

The game was exciting from start to finish, with both teams trading blows throughout.

The Athletics took an early lead in the first inning on a sacrifice fly by Dermis Garcia.

The Mariners answered back in the third inning on a two-run home run by Eugenio Suarez.

The Athletics tied the game in the fifth inning on a solo home run by Seth Brown.

Mariners Take the Lead

The Mariners regained the lead in the sixth inning on a solo home run by Julio Rodriguez.

The Mariners added to their lead in the eighth inning on an RBI single by Ty France.

Athletics Rally in 9th Inning

The Athletics started the ninth inning with a single by Cristian Pache. After a groundout, Ramon Laureano singled to put runners on first and second.

Paul Sewald came out of the bullpen and walked Tony Kemp to load the bases.

Shea Langeliers then came to the plate and hit a 1-2 sinker over the left field wall for a walk-off home run.

Mariners Disappointed

"It's a tough one to lose," Mariners manager Scott Servais said. "We had a chance to put them away in the eighth and we didn't do it. And then we let them back in the game in the ninth. We need to be better than that. We need to find a way to close these games out."

The Mariners will look to bounce back on Monday when they open a three-game series against the Texas Rangers.
